Being able to properly identify what type of scratch you have is the key to figuring out the best method to remove it, or whether it's even possible to do so. Most modern paints have a clear coat that when scratched, can be buffed with a machine buffer to level that area of the clear coat to effectively render the scratch invisible. The following scratches are all easily removable. As long as your scratch didn't cause the paint to peel or primer to show through, removing or at the very least, making it less visible is easily achievable. When interviewing a detailer, find out exactly what they will do with your car. Is this primarily a wash and wax job or is it a full service paint prep to polish and dressing job? Also find out exactly what care or systems will be used to ensure your MINI is in the best possible hands! |
These scratches were caused by letting my MINI roll down my driveway into a hedge.
A good lesson about always setting the parking brake or leaving it in gear before exiting.
Subconsciously, I wanted my MINI on this page too!

This scratch was caused by a flying license plate on the freeway.
There was paint transfer from the plate along with scuffs on the roof.

This is a typical type of scratch usually found on the side panels, caused by people brushing past your MINI.

Black paint clearly shows all defects, and this is a combination of a dirty roof and poor maintenance.

Take a look at your finish under the sun. Can you see swirls like this?

While gouges can't be removed 100%, they can usually be improved considerably to the point they aren't visible to the normal eye.
